Our Allowances

Honest, transparent and fair.

As a children’s charity, we are honest and transparent when discussing our fostering allowances for our foster parents, there are no hidden surprises. Our ethos at Foster Care Matters is making children matter and re-investing back into our services.

We also believe in a fair and clear allowance structure, our allowances are:

  • For children aged 0-10 years – £430.00 per child, per week
  • For children aged 11-18 years – £460.00 per child/young person, per week

For our full payment guide including details on additional allowances such as birthday, summer holiday and Christmas / religious festival allowances, download our fostering information guide below.

Note: Foster parent households are entitled to a tax exemption of up to £18,140* per household and tax relief for every week you foster a child. This is known as qualifying care relief. Further guidance is available through HMRC or Tax Specialists.

Foster parents also qualify for tax relief for every week they care for a foster child. This is £375 per week if they care for a child under 11 and £450 if they care for a child over 11. This tax allowance applies per child per week.

Refer a friend scheme – Open to all Foster Care Matters foster parents

There is nothing like a recommendation from someone you know and trust. Our foster parents already know what it takes to be a good foster parent and how our ongoing support and training helps them. This is why they can also play a very important role in helping us to grow our Foster Care Matters family.

If you know someone who is interested in becoming a Foster Care Matters foster parent, let us know.

As a thank you to you, we offer a refer-a-friend payment of £250.00 once they have been recommended for approval at panel and the Agency Decision Maker has made the final decision, and a further £250.00 once they complete their first review. This payment is £125.00 for foster parents offering sleepover care only.

As a charity, we have to carefully decide and plan every penny we spend on our recruitment but we feel strongly about rewarding our foster parents for helping spread the Foster Care Matters word, and there is nothing like hearing it from people who are fostering right now and are happy to recommend their agency. After all, who recommends a bad service?
